Next Level U Statement
My goal as a student athlete is to compete at the highest level of hockey possible while attaining a degree in my program of choice which is currently Business Management-Human Resources. I’ve played hockey for as long as I can remember, but my journey has been different from most. Growing up in a small Northern Ontario town with limited support for girls hockey, I started out playing on boys teams. In my first year of U18AA (Tier 1) in 2024, I moved away from home to North Bay to join the closest AA team and had a fun year of growth, but I wanted more competition and exposure. That led me to move even further to Stoney Creek which has an exceptional and well known association in order to continue my hockey path towards playing Junior then eventually University hockey. Just before the season began last summer, I broke my ankle water skiing, but I still moved 7 hours south to support my team, even if I couldn’t be on the ice at the time. Many people asked me why I would rearrange my life around to not even play yet, but I’ve always said if I can’t be on the ice I will be in the stands cheering. I eventually got on the ice for the regular season after missing 3 showcases but this past season was one I will never forget. Not only did I get back on the ice hungrier than ever to succeed, but I became a key player that guided our team to not only win our league division, but to become Provincial Champs! This past year I continued working hard, playing smart and became a PK specialist where my speed and game changing plays led us to ESSO cup where our team won silver nationally after a heartbreaker OT loss. For the upcoming season, I have committed to Burlington Jr U22AA as a left-shot center/forward and had a great beginning winning our first exhibition game with 2 goals in a 3-2 win. I have not clearly decided if I will graduate in 2027 or 2028 yet as I want experience playing in the Junior league while earning different high school credits, but if the right opportunity arises and I am ready then I can move on to the next stage right away.

Neutral Zone ESSO Cup 2026 Player Report
Olivia McBean #11 (Stoney Creek Sabres U18 AA, F, 2027): McBean is an extremely hard-working forward whose speed, relentlessness, and compete level consistently impact the game. She is an outstanding penalty killer, taking strong angles, eliminating time and space quickly, and applying heavy pressure that disrupts opposing breakouts and puck movement. Despite her size, she uses leverage effectively by getting underneath opponents and battling hard to regain possession. McBean’s speed is a major asset, allowing her to win foot races, blow past defenders, and draw penalties through her pace and pressure. The ’27 is strong in the faceoff circle and showcases her motor on the penalty kill by winning a draw, chasing the puck the length of the ice, dangling around two opponents, and setting up a teammate in front for a high-danger scoring chance. McBean thrives on puck pursuit, consistently cutting off lanes, angling opponents into the wall, and relentlessly forechecking every shift. A feisty, dynamic player whose nonstop effort and competitiveness stand out every time she is on the ice. Grade: A-/B+
