Next Level U Statement
I am interested in being part of a great hockey team for 4 years while I work towards a degree in the biology/forensic field.
I am an extremely determined hardworking player. I went from u18A hockey to playing U22 Elite the next year by doing the work and focusing on my goals. I am a tall, strong power forward, who can play left, right or centre. I play a physical game and pride myself in my shooting skills. I am a great teammate and coachable, always wanting to learn and get better every time I’m both on and off the ice.

Leadership:
Evaluation
Student’s Name: Grace Gow
Coach’s Name: Chase Campbell
Evaluation Date: Tuesday June 17, 2025
Evaluate the student on their self-awareness, responsibility, communication, social behaviour, safety
stewardship, leadership, and tactical skills using the LIKERT scale. As part of the evaluation, provide
an example of a time when the student demonstrated that characteristic.
Self-Awareness
☐X Excellent
Example: I believe Grace exemplified great self awareness throughout the school year. She
impressed me with how well she was able to be connected with and read her body. When in the
gym, Grace was able to pin point if there was a nagging injury and would approach me to help with
it. She never would “quit” on the day, rather would ask me to work with her to find a different
exercise that she was able to do pain free. On the ice, she did a great job at navigating a hip issue
she battled with throughout the season. Understanding what her body was relaying to her brain,
she was effectively able to make on ice adjustments or remove herself from an activity or exercise
rather than “pushing through it” and making it worse. A mistake many athletes tend to make.
Responsibility
☐X Excellent
Example: Grace is an extremely mature young woman who displays high levels of responsibility
within her work and training. Grace was NEVER late to the gym or on the ice and never had to be
prompted about such tasks. Grace also took it upon herself to work through her physio exercises
throughout the year without supervision, understanding that she needed to do these things in
order to compete outside of school. An example that jumps out to me was on the ice and in the
gym, Grace exemplified her responsibility by constantly asking for a critical analysis on her reps
asking about form and execution. For someone her age, this is not always the case, yet she showed
eagerness to want to get better each day.
Communication
☐ XGood
Example: Grace displayed good communication throughout the school year. Grace is a soft spoken
individual who I would consider a quiet leader. The reason for good communication and not great
consists of an on ice detail and habit that us coaches often touch on. When wanting a pass we
advise our students to “call for the puck” and this seemed to be a struggle of hers throughout the
year. However, Grace did a great job in communicating with her coaches on a personal level when
trying to plan out her weeks based on work load, and communicating with us the injuries that she
had obtained throughout the year. If the student does not communicate with us, we assume they
are healthy, but she was mature enough to chat with us so we could make adjustments to her
programming throughout the season.
Social Behaviour
☐ XExcellent
Example: As mentioned, Grace is a quieter athlete who works effectively and efficiently. She is
able to effectively communicate and socialize with her peers during class. She is non-disruptive
during training sessions which allows her to develop at a greater pace. She understands and knows
when to be social, and when it is time to work. Grace displayed excellent social behavior this year
by working with a peer throughout the school year when she was struggling. Grace acted as a
great support and friend and stepped up in a big way. She would often take time out of her day to
support her peer and still be able to complete her daily tasks while doing so.
Safety Stewardship
☐X Excellent
Example: Grace has displayed a high level of safety smarts throughout the year. She never puts her
peers or herself in any vulnerable position for someone to get hurt or injured. As previously
mentioned, she was able to effectively communicate her injuries with her coaches throughout the
season to steer clear from re-agrivating or even furthering the injury. In the gym, Grace has done a
great job in assuring safety for herself and peers by moving objects or weights from vulnerable
areas and providing a “spot” for her peers when they need one!
Leadership
☐ XGood
Example: Grace is a leader in her own unique way. She is able to lead through example and is not
an overly vocal individual. She will never verbally challenge her peers, but she approaches each
day with a positive attitude and relentless work ethic. She leads by example through her actions
and more importantly, I have felt she has done a good job in leading herself by constantly trying to
become better.
Tactical Skills
☐X Excellent
Example: Tactically, Grace has been one of our best performers this season. She has taken pride in
becoming tactically better and I can confidently say that her best on ice attributes are her skating
and shooting and off ice would be her athletic plyometric movements. Grace has come a long way,
but by becoming tactically sound, it has allowed us to increase the work load (example; heavier
weights) because her movements are tactically sound. By doing so, it has allowed us coaches to
have confidence in increasing volume without risking injury. On the ice, her tactical skills have led
to success with her Elite Travel team outside of school.

Other Info:
In my first U18 season I went from playing u18A hockey to U22 AA Elite. I took what was a huge disappointment of not making U18AA and put my head down and did the work. I wanted to show everyone what I knew I was absolutely capable of. By February of that season I had 5 u18AA teams who made me offers. This was a lot for me as I had only played AA once in my hockey career as a U15 major. I decided to make the most of my confidence and opportunities and tried out for Junior u22 Elite and made it. I’ve always worked hard both on and off the ice to be the best version of myself . I take set backs and adversities as challenges and use them as opportunities to rise to the occasion.
My dream job would be to work for the FBI. I love music , movies and watching the movies with my dog Stella. I also enjoying being a mechanic on my brothers racing team when I get a chance.
