To College Coaches,
It is my pleasure to recommend Luke Butler as he pursues the opportunity to compete at
the collegiate level. My name is Wade Waters, PGA of Canada Professional and the 2025
PGA of Alberta Coach of the Year. Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of
working closely with Luke, and during that time I have watched him develop into one of the
most dedicated, coachable, and mentally resilient young golfers I have coached.
Luke’s greatest strength is his commitment to continuous improvement. While natural
ability is important, sustained success in golf is built on discipline, consistency, and a
willingness to embrace change. Luke exemplifies all of those qualities. He arrives prepared,
works with purpose, and approaches every practice with the mindset that there is always
another level to reach.
What has impressed me most is his ability to understand and implement technical
changes. Many players can hear instruction, but very few can truly absorb feedback, trust
the process, and execute meaningful improvements over time. Luke has demonstrated an
exceptional ability to understand the “why” behind swing changes, apply them with
patience, and ultimately make them part of his game. The progress he has made over the
past two years is a direct reflection of his work ethic, coachability, and commitment to
mastering his craft.
Beyond his technical development, Luke has grown tremendously as a competitor. His
mental game continues to be one of his defining strengths. He competes with composure,
stays present under pressure, and responds to adversity with maturity rather than
frustration. He understands that golf is a game of resilience, and his ability to reset after
setbacks and remain committed to the next shot is a quality that will serve him
exceptionally well at the collegiate level.
Luke is also a natural leader. He leads through his actions, professionalism, and respect for
those around him. He is humble, accountable, and consistently demonstrates the kind of
character that elevates everyone in his practice environment. Younger players notice the
way he prepares, competes, and conducts himself, making him an excellent role model
both on and off the golf course.
Having recently graduated, Luke has set his sights on playing college golf, and I genuinely
believe he has both the talent and the character to thrive in that environment. More
importantly, I believe his greatest golf is still ahead of him. His development over the past
two years has been substantial, and I have every confidence that he will continue to
improve as he is challenged by the demands of collegiate competition.College coaches are looking for student-athletes who are coachable, resilient, disciplined,
and committed to becoming better every day. Luke Butler embodies those qualities. He is
the type of player who strengthens a program through his work ethic, positive attitude,
competitive mindset, and unwavering commitment to improvement.
I recommend Luke without hesitation or reservation. I am confident he will represent your
program with integrity, professionalism, and the same dedication that has defined his
journey thus far. I look forward to watching him continue his development and make a
meaningful impact at the next level.
Please feel free to contact me if I can provide any additional information regarding Luke or
his development.
Sincerely,
Wade Waters, PGA of Canada
