Next Level U Statement
My name is Maya, I live in Ontario, Canada, and I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old. I am currently the team captain for my team, and I take this role very serious. I have grown so much as a player; technically, physically, and mentally. In doing so, I have developed grit, empathy as well as other key leadership skills. I have become more tenacious, loyal, determined, and strategic. But what I love the most about soccer are my teammates and coaches.
I have an ability to see the entire field, create strategic moves, and be able to make controlled and accurate passes as well as long balls into space for my teammates to create offensive opportunities. I take the team captain title as a great responsibility and as such I lead by example. I give my teammates motivation, encouragement, empathy, and I am always willing to listen. I keep things positive and try to provide as much feedback and reassurance as needed. I have a very coachable personality and seek & see feedback as a gift to continue to grow and get better each day.
At my high school, I play soccer with the senior grade 12 girls’ team. Last year, during my first high school year, I won the MVP award. I currently have a 3.6 GPA average and am committed to my schoolwork as well as soccer. I graduated grade 8 with honors, made it to honor roll and won the physical education award, and I expect the same in high school. My goal is to become a remarkable pro-athlete, excellent student and a significant role model to my younger sister and the soccer community around me. I want everyone to know that if you set personal goals and have a plan, you can accomplish anything.
I want to attend a university where I can grow and learn academically and as an athlete. I want to improve and grow; I am willing to put the time and effort to achieve this.
