Coach’s Recommendation
February 3, 2022
To Any Recruiting Officers/ Coaches,
I am writing this letter today in support of Mr. Tyler Schaeffer, as a potential recruitment pursuing baseball at the college/university level. I have had the pleasure of coaching Tyler over the course of three seasons. During that time I got to know Tyler very well, both as a standout athlete and on a personal level. I can confidently say that Tyler has the maturity, commitment and ability to play baseball at the college/university level.
I am a certified baseball coach within Baseball Ontario and have been coaching in the Province of Ontario for over 15 years. During that time I have coached competitive baseball within the ICBA league. The ICBA organization is one of the best and most competitive baseball conferences in Ontario with teams representing such centers as Hamilton (pop. 550,000), Kitchener Waterloo (pop. 350,000) and London (pop. 510,000). During my years coaching, I can say without a doubt that Tyler is the best and most well-rounded player I have coached.
Tyler has all the tools to play at the next level; Arm strength, speed, fielding technique/balance, base running and both power & average at the plate.
On defense Tyler is a multi-position player. His main position has always been SS or SB. However, to ensure Tyler never leaves the field, he moves seamlessly to CF. In the field, no matter the position, Tyler uses his athletic abilities to be in the proper fielding position to always make correct plays. He has both the speed and arm strength to make the difficult plays look routine. Tyler has incredible range at SS, SB and CF. Tyler also has the intelligence and baseball “smarts’ ‘ to pick up on a hitter’s tendencies and move his defensive positioning to match the batter’s swing.
Tyler is equally great at the plate. He is a high average hitter with gap power. Tyler has always been a high average hitter with excellent bat control and hand eye coordination. Tyler is a fantastic two hitter, always making contact with an incredible low strikeout rate. Over the years Tyler has worked incredibly hard at his hitting. He has improved his bat speed and his contact angle. This dedication to the craft of hitting, plus his off-field weight training/conditioning has greatly improved his power without any reduction in his average. His offense is also aided by his speed which makes him a threat to steal at all times. Tyler has always led his team in stolen bases.
I can also say that Tyler has the other attributes that make a successful athlete, which is a positive attitude and a consistent work effort. Tyler is always ready to work; he takes instruction and feedback and then uses that information to make himself better.
In conclusion, I cannot say enough positive things about Tyler’s abilities on the baseball field to truly describe his talent. He is a pleasure to coach and to watch play. Tyler has the ability, attitude and maturity to play at the next level. The school that chooses Tyler will be getting a “can’t miss” player and an exceptional young man.
