Staying Connected: International Phone Plans For Student Athletes

  • 15 March 2024

In this document we have outlined some potential options for phone plans while studying in the United States. Some plans allow you to keep your current plan, while others will ask for some sort of upgrade.

Rogers: Canada+US Rogers Infinite Plan

Telus: Unlimited 50 5G+

T-Mobile: Mobile Without Boarders

  • Mobile Without Borders gives you unlimited calling and texting between the US, Mexico, and Canada.
  • Most plans offer a 5GB data allotment (or the max of your plan’s data allotment, whichever comes first) that includes both phone and tethering data usage.
  • T-Mobile customers never pay data overages – even if you manage to use up your high-speed data, you automatically stay connected with unlimited data at speeds up to 256kbps for most plans.

Bell: Ultimate 50 Family Plan

Other Providers To Check Out

  • Fido: After 20 days of Fido Roam, you can continue using your phone plan while visiting the U.S. until the end of your billing month at no additional charge.
  • Koodoo: Vacation plans: Start your trip using Easy Roam U.S., and once you hit $240 (20 days), you can continue using the service at no additional charge until your next billing cycle.
  • Shaw: The Shaw 25GB/Unlimited data plan costs as little as $25/month, but adding an extra $10 to your plan means you can use it anywhere in Canada, the United States, and even Mexico. However, the plan only includes 2GB of data outside Shaw’s primary network zones (Alberta and British Columbia).
  • Fizz Mobile: Regular visitor: Add $4 to any Canada-wide plan and take your phone and plan as you travel south. You still get unlimited talk, texts, and however much data your plan normally includes.
