NLU ATHLETES FALL SEASON SUCCESS PT. 1

  • 28 November 2025

This fall season, several NLU athletes have delivered standout performances that helped guide their programs to some great achievements. From clutch goals to record-setting moments, these student-athletes have had some great success at the post-secondary level here in Canada and in the United States. We’re super proud of their hard work and dedication to their sports, and we look forward to celebrating even more success with our athletes as the year continues!

Colby Bent (Men’s Golf)

Colby Bent had an impressive and promising season as a freshman on the Fairmont State University men’s golf team. He recorded strong individual performances, finishing tied for 9th at the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational with a solid 223 (+7), including an even-par final round. In the University of Charleston Invitational, he shot rounds of 73, 68, and 76, helping his team finish the tournament T-10th. At the MEC Championship, Bent climbed the leaderboard each day, ending in 10th place with a final-round even-par 72. Overall, his strong play as a rookie helped anchor the Falcons and demonstrated a lot of potential for future seasons.

Julia Alexander-Carew (Women’s Golf)

Julia Alexander-Carew had a standout fall season with UBC Okanagan Heat women’s golf that showed her continual rising star status in the Canada golf scene. Early in the season she captured the individual title at the Grisham Memorial Shootout, shooting 4-under over 36 holes to win by a shot and help her team tie for 2nd. Shortly after, she notched a second straight win at the True North Classic, using a bogey-free 68 in the second round to take top honours and show she can dominate in back-to-back tournaments. Julia continues to improve and we’re excited to see what she brings in her senior year!

Elliot Demaine (Football)

Elliot Demaine has a lot of exciting traits that make him a prospect to watch closely for Wake Forest Demon Deacons. At 6’7″ and 280 lb, he brings ideal size for an offensive lineman — a base many college and future pro coaches prize. Elliot’s work ethic and leadership throughout high school helped him get to where he is today. He was even included on three game-day rosters for the Demon Deacons and looks to be a key piece for their future.

Gillian Rovers (Women’s Soccer)

Gillian Rovers had a strong fall season for Maine Black Bears women’s soccer and she made meaningful contributions both individually and for the team. She scored a dramatic late goal in the 84th minute to tie a game against NJIT Highlanders, helping Maine escape from a 2-0 deficit and preserve an America East-conference home-unbeaten streak. More recently, she delivered the game-winning goal in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament – redirecting a ball into the net for a 2-1 win that sent Maine to the semifinals and helped them to becoming eventual America East champions for a third straight year!

Logan Rieck (Men’s Soccer)

Logan Rieck – midfielder for StFX X-Men – had a standout fall season. He was named a First-Team U SPORTS All-Canadian after a fantastic final year in the AUS. Over the season, he delivered consistently, scoring important goals and even converting a late penalty to clinch a 1–0 victory over UNB. On top of his 6 goals, Logan set up teammates consistently, tallying 8 assists to lead StFX through a dominant regular season. Even though the X-Men fell just short in a tense double-overtime semifinal loss in the conference playoffs, Rieck’s performance stood out and he has left a lasting legacy on the X-Men program after 5 incredible years.
