NLU Alumni Spring Season Success

  • 20 May 2026

With the spring season now in the books, we are reflecting on an incredible stretch of athletic excellence from our NLU athletes. Over the past few months, several of our athletes delivered standout performances that helped guide their programs to major achievements on both sides of the border. From clutch, season-defining moments to record-setting stats, these student-athletes showcased what it means to compete at the highest post-secondary levels in Canada and the United States. We’re incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication they brought this spring, and we can’t wait to see how they carry this momentum into the off-season!

Nic Tozer (Men’s Track and Field)

Nic Tozer capped off an incredible spring season for Indiana Tech by making a massive impact on the biggest stage. At the WHAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the freshman standout stepped up when it mattered most, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.23 seconds. Not only did the performance earn him individual WHAC First-Team All-Conference honors, but it also delivered critical points to the team standings. His performance helped the Warriors secure their 13th straight outdoor team title and capped off a phenomenal debut season for Nic.

Joline Truong (Women’s Golf)

Joline Truong had a strong spring season for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights women’s golf team, making meaningful contributions both individually and for the program. Rutgers delivered its first team win of the spring, capturing the tournament title at the Rutgers Invitational, and Joline backed it up with standout results against elite competition at the Buckeye Invitational.

At the Big Ten Championships, Joline enjoyed the best round of the Sunday session for Rutgers, carding a three-over-par 73. Highlighted by three clutch birdies and 10 steady pars, her impressive final-round push moved her up nine spots on the leaderboard to place 66th in a highly competitive field. Her final-round surge provided vital momentum for the Scarlet Knights, cementing her role as a competitor who elevates her game when the stakes are highest!

Nathan Szpakowicz (Men’s Golf)

Nathan Szpakowicz had a standout postseason for the University of Hawai’i at Manoa Rainbow Warriors, delivering major contributions on the conference’s grandest stage. At the Big West Championship, the sophomore helped anchor the team’s historic run with steady rounds of 74, 70, and 73. His 2-under-par performance in the second round led to a phenomenal T-17th individual finish. Nathan helped secure a tie for fourth place – the best-ever team finish in program history!

Mathew McNicoll (Men’s Baseball)

Mathew McNicoll had an incredible freshman season for Mohawk Valley CC, delivering major contributions. The Stoney Creek native cracked the regional Top 20 in nearly every major statistical category. Mathew posted an elite slash line of .414 AVG (15th in region), .523 OBP (15th), and a powerhouse .632 Slugging percentage (13th) to go along with 3 home runs. A constant threat to score, he translated his speed into 19 stolen bases, ranking 19th regionally. Mathew finished his season as a 2nd Team All-Conference and 3rd Team All-Region NJCAA Region 3 D3.

Jaida Lammie (Women’s Flag Football)

Jaida Lammie had an exceptional freshman season at Graceland University, serving as an elite offensive player during a historic year for the program. The Toronto native established herself as a go-to target in clutch situations, culminating in a big-time performance at the KCAC Semifinals. With the Yellowjackets hunting for a spark against Ottawa, Jaida came through with a clutch second-quarter touchdown reception to cap off a brilliant 66-yard drive. From racking up double-digit reception games to delivering key scores on the championship stage, she has already proven she has the playmaking ability to help this program to new heights!

Avery Curran had a standout spring season for Baldwin Wallace, delivering major contributions as one of the OAC’s premier offensive players. In a career-best breakout year, Avery completely dominated the conference leaderboards, hitting a team-high .463 AVG (3rd in OAC), slugging 9 home runs (3rd), and driving in 33 RBIs (7th) across 30 games. A relentless threat in the batter’s box, she also collected 29 runs scored and 14 walks, a spectacular run that deservingly earned her OAC Hitter of the Week and the Yellow Jacket Female Athlete of the Month for April. Great work Avery!

Sofia Mullen (Women’s Lacrosse)

Sofia Mullen had a dynamic sophomore season with McKendree University, being a key player for one of the program’s most successful campaigns in recent history. Her spring season was highlighted by a dominant hat-trick in the home opener and a crucial goal in the season finale to secure a big win over William Jewell.
