April In Review: Crunch Time and Commitment Time

April was a month filled with high level competition and successes for the student athletes of Next Level U Sports. With many leagues and teams beginning to wrap up their seasons and completing their conference tournaments, many of our NLU alumni have been in action and have been making an impact! Back home in Canada, NLU has continued to have success on the recruitment front with a number of new commitments for the class of 2021! In this week’s post on THE BLOG, we will highlight some of the great successes of our student athletes that occurred this past month!

Alumni In Action

Seanan Main – Western Illinois University Men’s Soccer

Seanan Main wrapped up his outstanding first year for the Leatherbacks of Western Illinois! The first-year goalkeeper made 6 saves in his lone appearance in April! Main had some great news come his way as he was signed by the Iowa Raptors of the UPSL to compete this summer!

McKenna Kelly – Charleston Women’s Softball 

McKenna Kelly found her way into the lineup for the Cougars quite frequently this past month. McKenna made 8 appearances for the College of Charleston, recording 1 run, while pitching a total of 8.2 innings and recording 3 strikeouts!

Colton Fountain – Cleary University Men’s Baseball

Colton Fountain had another great month for the Cougars of Cleary University. Fountain recorded 9 hits, 3 RBI’s, and 2 runs in the month of April. Colton continues to show why his name will be in the Cleary record books for a long time to come as he made another 11 appearances behind the plate this past month!

Kaylee Bruce & Dylan Varty-Wright – East Central University Women’s Soccer

Both Bruce and Varty-Wright saw their season come to an end this month as East Central University fell in the GAC Semi-Finals. Kaylee had a great finish to the year recording 9 shots while starting all 3 games this month while Dylan finished out her year as one of the most consistent contributors off the bench for the Tigers making a substitute appearance in every game!

Eva D’Andrea – West Liberty University Women’s Soccer

D’Andrea and the Hilltoppers wrapped up their season with a 3-0 win against Wheeling on April 16th. Eva continued to be a steady presence off the bench in her first season as she appeared in all 4 games this month for West Liberty!

 

Thomasz Karauda – Iowa Wesleyan University Men’s Soccer

Karauda and Iowa Wesleyan saw their season come to an end in April after falling to Fontbonne University in the SLIAC Quarter – Finals. Thomasz had a great first year for the Tigers earning a Second Team All Conference Selection as well as receiving a spot on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship team for the season. Karauda started in 3 of the 5 games this month.

Kathryn Hoeger – Davenport University Women’s Soccer

After a very productive first season with the Panthers, Hoeger saw her season come to an end in the GLIAC Quarter – Finals against Ashland University. In the month of April, Kathryn earned two starts and recorded one shot!

Trev Lewis – University of Arkansas Rich Mountain Men’ Soccer

With the spring season underway for the Bucks of Arkansas Rich Mountain, Trev Lewis has had a great start to his campaign. Starting 6 games and appearing in 8, Lewis has recorded 7 shots, 2 assists and recorded his first goal of the season on April 16th against Eastern Oklahoma State University!

Makayla Farquharson – Cowley College Women’s Soccer

The NJCAA Women’s Soccer league began in April and Makayla Farquharson has got off to a fantastic start in goal for the Tigers of Cowley College. The second-year goalkeeper recorded a 6-1-1 record in April, stopping 27 shots and earning 3 shutouts in the process!

Kayla Ambrose – Johnson County Community College Women’s Soccer

After having to have season ending surgery last year, Kayla Ambrose made her return to action this month for the Cavaliers of Johnson County! Kayla appeared in 4 games this month, earning a start in one of the contests. Ambrose also recorded 5 shots and 1 assist in her first month back from injury!

Trent Zorgdrager – Southeastern Oklahoma State University Men’s Golf

Trent Zorgdrager had a fantastic campaign for Southeastern Oklahoma State University. His consistent play all month including a Top 20 finish at the 21st Annual NSU Golf Classic helped earn him an honorable mention for the GAC All Conference team!
